Not a Korea Blog?

Posted in Korea on July 27, 2011 by yujinishuge

If this is what you are looking for, you need to look elsewhere. No, that's not me. (Photo stolen from http://joeverdrive.tumblr.com/)

Read the title? Let me explain.  I got an e-mail from a reader who found my blog via the Korean Bloglist.  He wrote the following:

I was searching on the Korean Bloglist and came upon yours in the category Koreans in Korea.  I’m very surprised, because it turns out you aren’t even Korean, and your blog isn’t about Korea at all.  It’s about TV and science fiction and your ramblings, with a few Korea related posts here and there.  If the Korea Bloglist were to ever find out about this you would be removed pretty fast…

Name Withheld, Canada

Well Mr. Withheld, let me address your concerns.   Continue reading

My awesome background.

Posted in About me, Nerdy Stuff on July 24, 2011 by yujinishuge

Reader Steven from Arizona asks:

Dear Huge… how did you make that cool looking background on your blog?  Where does the image originally come from?  It looks like a game of some sort, but I don’t remember any game having a fighter that looked like that who was named Eugene.

Steven – Arizona

Well, I’m not going to give it away to you for free, but what I will do is  show you the original background picture itself, and you geeky nerdy readers of mine can let Steven know where its from.  We’ll make it a contest of some sort… the winner gets.. my love and respect for the next few hours.  Haha.. no seriously, if you’re in Korea I’ll buy you a drink (that means a lot coming from an unemployed man.)  Of course I modified the picture a bit with my awesome photoshop skills, which consisted of stretching and deleting part of the full picture to further make the effects of the crappy TV stand out.

OK here is the picture!

I'm sure the next question will be, who is Hubert? Hubert is awesome, and he knows who he is.

So get to it nerds! Which game, and who is Eugene?

The “Complacent Reynolds” meme

Posted in Nerdy Stuff, Sports on July 19, 2011 by yujinishuge

I really love all the neat little memes there are on the internet, but this one is really funny and concerns a baseball team that I follow religiously.  The Baltimore Orioles.  I know, I know, before you snicker at me, remember, I grew up in the Baltimore Washington area, and they were actually pretty good when I was a kid.  Well since 1997 they have not had a winning season.  They have been terrible!  They used to finish in 4th place year after year, and I took solace that they always at least did better than the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, who always finished in 5th.  Yeah, well the Rays are now awesome, which means Baltimore now has to finish in last every year.

Anyway back to the meme.  An online forum that I often lurk on, but can’t become a member on for some reason (believe me, I’ve tried registering twice, and I got rejected for membership twice… I don’t really understand why, but whatever.) called Orioles Hangout had this thread where are really funny picture that sums up the frustration of Orioles fans.  Here is the picture…

The picture is hilarious.  It was taken in a game where the Orioles were getting blown away by the Red Sox, and some suggested that the players have become so used to losing, that they sit idly by and allow it to happen.

With David Ortiz in his home run trot, Mark Reynolds takes a sunflower seed break.

After this first picture, another person who commented on the thread decided to use the image of Mark Reynolds munching on sunflower seeds in a humorous way.

As Chinese tanks roll into Tienanmen Square, Mark Reynolds takes a seed break.

And from there, the Complacent Reynolds meme was born. Some of my favorite pictures of this meme after the break… Continue reading

Nice shirt... But only other 외국인 would think it is cool. BTW neither of the people in the picture are me.

Quick rant here. It’s become apparent that within the expat in Korea blog community (labeled by some the K-blogosphere), there are a few new terms that have come to use. Some of them are cute. Others are plain dumb. I’ll go over a few of them and give you my opinions on them. Most of them that I bother to write about are probably because they bother me.

k-logic – Also known as Korean Logic. It is used to explain a situation that seems illogical to the user, but not to the Korean person in the situation. Basically this means any nonsensical thing that any Korean does is because the person is Korean, not because the person is a moron. This is why I don’t like the term.  More after the break…

Bad flight experiences..

Posted in Senseless Griping on July 14, 2011 by yujinishuge

This originally started as a reply to a post on the Ask a Korean blog that detailed the difference between Korean carriers and American ones. After it got to be too long, I decided I’d write my own post on it.

My worst flight experience was on Air Canada/Alaska Airlines from Tokyo to Seattle. The first leg was from Narita to Vancouver and the guy next to me kept complaining that he had bought a non stop ticket to Toronto, when in actuality we’d be making a stop in Vancouver and he’d have to deplane and go through immigration and security, then get on the plane again. He was bitching for a good 5 or 6 hours. But lets get on with what was wrong with the flight itself.

I am still alive.

Posted in About me on July 9, 2011 by yujinishuge

Hey everyone. It’s been a hectic few months and I’ve had to re-evaluate a lot of things in my life. I don’t really know if I should go into too much detail on the internet, but life is just interesting. Just when you think things are stable and nice, you get thrown a curveball and everything you thought was, actually is not.

Meh, that’s life.

Here’s a random picture. If I think of anything deep to say I’ll update the blog.
Simon Cowell is a douche.
